About us

A Place to Learn & Grow

Our Story

We began 54 years ago as The Pumpkin Hollow School, housed in a one-room timber-frame barn that still serves as the heart of our campus today, our library. Over the decades, we have grown thoughtfully to meet the evolving needs of families and a changing world, while remaining deeply rooted in the foundational values and time-honored traditions of Waldorf education. Today, we proudly stand as the Berkshire Waldorf School, grounded in our history and inspired by the future.

Our Mission

Berkshire Waldorf School educates children to think with clarity, feel with compassion, and act with courage and conviction. Our curriculum weaves intellectual rigor, artistic expression and hands-on work to develop and expand the full human potential of each child.

The Berkshire Waldorf Difference

There are many Waldorf schools around the world. What makes ours different?

Berkshire Waldorf School is rooted in a 100-year educational tradition, but fully alive to the needs of families in the modern day. We serve a diverse, globally minded community of professionals, creatives, and parents who want more than just strong academics; they want a school that develops the whole human being.

Whole-Child Learning

We educate the head, heart, and hands: nurturing intellectual rigor, emotional resilience, and practical creativity. This integrated model helps students grow into capable, compassionate human beings.

We honor childhood. Our curriculum unfolds in harmony with the natural stages of human development—building strong foundations instead of rushing milestones. The result? Students who love learning and retain what they learn.

Human-Centered, Tech-Conscious. Offering a hands-on, screens-off education in the heart of the Berkshires.

In the Berkshires

BWS isn’t just a school—it’s a community. The Berkshires offer families a unique blend of natural beauty, world-class culture, and a slower, more intentional way of life.

Many BWS families move here to be part of this enriching environment, where weekends are filled with hiking, skiing, concerts, and local arts.
