The Waldorf Education

A holistic education from toddler to teen, set in the beauty of the Berkshires.

Why Waldorf?

A Unique Approach to Learning

Over a century ago, Rudolf Steiner founded Waldorf education with the belief that learning should engage the whole child—mind, body, and spirit.

Instead of focusing solely on test scores, Waldorf education nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and a deep love of learning.

At Berkshire Waldorf School, students don’t just memorize facts—they experience their education through storytelling, movement, music, and hands-on projects. This immersive approach fosters intellectual curiosity, emotional resilience, and social awareness that lasts a lifetime.

The Waldorf Curriculum

Waldorf education is designed to meet children at each stage of development. Every lesson integrates academic rigor with creativity and movement to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

ACADEMICS

Literature, mathematics, science, and history taught through storytelling, exploration, and real-world application.

Arts & Music

Daily integration of painting, sculpting, woodworking, choral singing, and instrumental music.

Movement

Outdoor play, eurythmy (expressive movement), movement/games class, and hands-on work like knitting, woodworking, and gardening all enhance cognitive and motor skills.

Nature

Lessons extend beyond the classroom to gardens, forests, and biodynamic farms.

Waldorf Education

Educating the humans our future needs.

Head. Heart. Hands.

True innovation comes from integrated intelligence. Our curriculum cultivates cognitive skills, emotional insight, and practical creativity. Because future-ready humans need all three.

Our world is shaped by AI, automation, and complexity. But our children are still human.

That’s why the BWS curriculum cultivates what no machine can replicate:

0

acres used for athletics, biodynamic farming, hiking, ecology studies, outdoor play, and much more.

0

rolls of bread baked each year in early childhood.

0

years of bringing our active, living Waldorf education to families in the Berkshires and beyond.

0

hours spent on screens or devices.

A ceremony for the first grade, 8th grade, and high school senior class to celebrate new beginnings.

We offer a seamless learning journey from early childhood through high school.

Festivals & Celebrations

Since ancient times, people have celebrated the seasons through festivals that mark the rhythms of nature, light and dark, and sowing and reaping. At BWS, festivals are an integral part of school life, bringing our community together in joy and reflection.

May Day

Traditional Maypole Dancing, Music, a Community Picnic and Games to welcome in the summer sun.

Michaelmas

(Garden Festival) A celebration of the Season of Courage with community service projects and our beloved Michaelmas play.

Season of Light

In the darkest months, we keep our spirits bright with our Early Childhood Lantern Walk, Spiral of Light ceremony, and our Santa Lucia Festival of Light feast.
