Honoring Dr. King at BWS
“This past week, as part of our Second Grade ‘Golden Hearts’ curriculum – which features stories of individuals from cultures around the world who lived their values – I’ve been sharing stories of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s childhood, and about some of his work as a preacher and Civil Rights advocate.
“The central image has been that Dr. King was a person with a golden heart, who inspired and continues to inspire people with the power of his words to impart change. The class discussion was thoughtful. I encourage you to invite conversations at home with your children, as feels appropriate over the next several days. Below are examples of picture books for young children, as well as local community events in the Berkshires this weekend.

“On Tuesday, January 20, Grades classes will gather for an in-house assembly to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with singing and poetry. Following the assembly, Grades students will work together across classes on a community art project to share messages of peace, hope and joy with our local elders.”
