Collaborative Leadership Opportunities
The Berkshire Waldorf School will begin the 2021-22 academic year with a collaborative leadership team of three distinct, but integrated roles: a Community Lead, a Pedagogical Lead, and an Operations Lead. They will work closely with faculty, administrative staff, parents, the Council of Teachers and Board of Trustees, and especially one another, to promote a healthy culture of collaboration, leadership, and partnership and to sustain community learning. Each candidate must demonstrate a commitment to Waldorf Education, and recognize/uphold its anthroposophical foundations. Each candidate must also recognize the pragmatic responsibilities of independent school administration and take proportional managerial responsibility for the organization. Community Lead
The Community Lead is responsible for cultivating healthy relationships with our current families and the broader communities in which we live and work. The Community Lead recognizes that Waldorf Education is a social movement and as such works to ensure that the school community is in good health and represents the social changes we wish to see in the world. They are a strong ambassador for core focus areas of community building such as Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Community Lead brings forth the interests and contributions of our families, as well as the admissions/enrollment, events planning and communications/marketing teams. The Community Lead works to balance community-focused interests and needs in organizational planning and decision-making. The Community Lead is a liaison for all families, and specifically helps coordinate the parent association, school committee participation, and volunteer efforts. The Community Lead is a supervisor and supportive mentor for the admissions/enrollment and communications/marketing team. The Community Lead also has specific, shared leadership responsibilities with the Pedagogical Lead and the Operations Lead.
Job Responsibilities:
- Participates in full partnership with the Pedagogical Lead and the Operations Lead to sustain comprehensive and coherent leadership and managerial practices for the organization.
- Provides leadership for the implementation and growth of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging initiative
- Provides collaborative leadership and ultimate supervision to the Admissions/Enrollment team and the Communications and Marketing team.
- Supports, organizes and/or leads the planning of family events and community learning opportunities
- Provides leadership and coordinates volunteer leadership of the Parent Association and parent planning committees
- Additional responsibilities to be determined through the hiring process
Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree or Higher
- Proven track record of collaborative and service-based leadership demonstrated through strong collegial relationships, proactive communication and supportive community building
- Strong interpersonal and writing skills
- Two plus years experience in a similar role
The Community Lead reports to the Board of Trustees and is directly supported by a board appointed governance committee.
Pedagogical Lead
The Pedagogical Lead is responsible for sustaining a healthy culture of teaching and learning at Berkshire Waldorf School. The Pedagogical Lead embodies and promotes the principles, values, and practices of Waldorf Schooling, including but not limited to, holding an anthroposophical understanding of child development as the underpinning of pedagogical decisions and supporting the collaborative, cooperative and creative practices of a Waldorf faculty. The Pedagogical Lead is a strong ambassador for core focus areas of pedagogical and curricular development such as developmental responsiveness, diversity and inclusivity. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Pedagogical Lead brings forth the interests and contributions of the students, families and the faculty in organizational planning and decision-making, particularly as they pertain to the learning program. They are a member ofthe Council of Teachers, and collaborate to achieve the objectives of committees such as Teacher Search Committee and Teacher Development Committee. The Pedagogical Lead is a supervisor and supportive mentor for the full faculty. The Pedagogical Lead also has specific shared leadership responsibilities with the Community Lead and the Operations Lead.
Job Responsibilities:
- Participates in full partnership with the Community Lead and the Operations Lead to sustain comprehensive and coherent leadership and managerial practices for the organization.
- Works closely with the full faculty, grade school, EC Chair(s), and Council of Teachers
to establish and implement the pedagogical vision of the school
- Supports the work of the Teacher Development Committee (mentoring, support, training and evaluation) and works collaboratively with the Council of Teachers, regularly informing them of objectives and decisions that need to be made on behalf of the students and teachers
- Maintains an awareness of ongoing curriculum and pedagogical developments in
both Waldorf education and the wider educational community

Requirements:
- Waldorf Teacher Certificate and/or Bachelor of Education and/or current enrollment in a Waldorf accredited training program
- Waldorf teaching and administration experience in an early childhood and/or primary school setting
- Proven track record of collaborative and service-based leadership demonstrated through strong collegial relationships, proactive communication and supportive pedagogical outcomes
- Strong interpersonal and writing skills

Operations Lead
The Operations Lead is responsible for maintaining and increasing the efficiency of BWS, ensuring that the organization is performing to its best potential. The Operations Lead recognizes the principled role of administrative function in promoting healthy human relationships, cultivating individual and organizational capacity, and furthering the educational program of the school. They are a strong ambassador for core focus areas of community health such as equity and sustainability. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Operations Lead brings forth the interests and contributions of the business office, the campus and facilities team, the development team and the employee(s) through Human Resource systems and services. They work to balance the needs of the community with the financial and compliance demands of the organization. The Operations Lead brings insight and leadership to administrative committees such as the finance committee, HR committee, and the development committee. The Operations Lead is a supervisor and supportive mentor for the business office, the campus and facilities team, and the development team. The Operations Lead also has specific shared leadership responsibilities with the Community Lead and the Pedagogical Lead.
Job Responsibilities:
- Participates in full partnership with the Pedagogical Lead and the Community Lead to sustain comprehensive and coherent leadership and managerial practices for the organization.
- Collaborate with the Finance Manager to coordinate long-range financial planning, facilities planning and energy conservation
- Supervise the development team to ensure the financial success of the school with fundraising, etc
- Oversees and ensures the successful implementation of human resource functions of all supervisors/managers, including hiring practices, employee onboarding, performance reviews/evaluations, and employee discipline and dismissal procedures.
- Ensures technology and office systems are managed well
- Ensures campus and facilities are managed well in day to day operations, as well as into the foreseeable future

Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree or Higher
- Proven track record of collaborative and service-based leadership demonstrated through strong collegial relationships, proactive communication and supportive operational support of a school or similar organization.
